MEET THE PHYSIO'S

Lisa Barnacle MCSP, HPC, MSc
Lisa qualified in 1991 from Kings College, London and worked in London for 6 years before moving to Bristol, working at Southmead Hospital for 4 years.

Whilst there she specialised in knee injuries working with one of the knee surgeons in his orthopaedic clinic as a clinical specialist. During this time Lisa studied an MSc in sports injuries with the final year dissertation researching shoulder instability.

Lisa still specialises in knee and shoulder conditions and in addition practices acupuncture, which she uses to compliment her physiotherapy treatment.

In 2001 Lisa bought the Clifton Physiotherapy practice with Marion Averill.

Nicola Ford MCSP, BSc (Hons), AMACP
Nicola qualified in 1995 from East London University and has worked in musculoskeletal outpatients/orthopaedics since 1998.
Nicola is an Associate member of the Manipulative Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP). Working towards completion of membership process by Feb 2008.

She has worked as an extended scope practitioner alongside various orthopaedic consultants for 6 years, specialising in lower limb conditions.

Nicola has a particular interest in assessment and treatment of hip problems and shoulder joint conditions.

Nicola joined the Clifton Physiotherapy team in July 2006.

Mel Taylor BSc (Hons)
Mel qualified in 2000 from UWE, Bristol and initially worked in Charing Cross teaching hospital London until taking a year out in 2003 to travel Australia.

Mel currently works in the BRI as a senior musculoskeletal physiotherapist She has a particular interest in knees and shoulders and has been highly involved in treating patients post ACL reconstruction.

She is in the process of completing a post graduate course specialising in manipulative therapy (MACP).

Mel joined the Clifton Physiotherapy team working in the evening clinics in January 2007.

Marion Averill MCSP, HPC, MSc
Marion qualified in 1989 from University of Ulster and initially worked in Bath for 2 years before travelling to Cape Town to work at the Groote Schuur hospital for a year. She specialised in musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions over the next 3 years working in the Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital, Oxford before moving to Bristol.

Marion has a special interest in lower limb injuries particularly foot and ankle and has worked as a clinical specialist with Mr Winson (Orthopaedic Surgeon).

She completed her MSc at Bath University in 2000, primarily studying ankle arthritis. She also enjoys treating spinal conditions and has an interest in active rehabilitation for low back pain.

In 2001 Marion bought the Clifton Physiotherapy practice with Lisa Barnacle.

Helen Foster BSc (Hons), MACP
Helen qualified in 1995 from Kings College London and initially worked in Bristol covering a wide range of conditions and specialisms.

In 1998 she spent a year in Uganda establishing physiotherapy and rehab services in a rural community, training staff and community leaders. In 1999 Helen worked treating musculoskeletal outpatients and neurological rehabilitation in Paulton hospital and since 2000 worked in musculoskeletal outpatients at UBHT (Bristol).

Helen completed her membership of the manipulative association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) in July 2005 and is working towards completion in 2008of an MSc working as a musculoskeletal specialist in occupational health.

Helen has a special interest in musculoskeletal pain in pregnancy and is currently undertaking a research project to investigate effectiveness of treatment for women with pregnancy related pelvic pain. She also has interests in Lumbar spine and knee injuries.

Helen joined the Clifton Physiotherapy team in October 07.

Pauline Niblett MCSP, HPC
Pauline qualified in 1986 from Kings College, London, initially working as a junior physiotherapist at Windford Orthopaedic hospital. Moving to the BRI as a senior physiotherapist Pauline worked treating musculoskeletal conditions and in the specialist hand unit. . She then moved to Southmead hospital working with an orthopaedic surgeon as an extended scope physiotherapist. In 2002 she began working at the Bristol Nuffield hospital, treating patients with chronic low back pain many of whom were referred by the specialist pain consultant.

Pauline has an interest in treating people holistically, and feels that many people given the right information and understanding have an ability to help treat themselves. Pauline specialises in the use of modified Pilates and stabilising exercises for the treatment of back pain.

Pauline joined the Clifton Physiotherapy team in March 2007.
